Also it’s impossibly hard to get brick and mortar stores to stock novellas so you don’t even get the chance to see if readers will buy them and enjoy them.

From the readers’ perspective, we no longer see a big, fat fantasy book next to a thin little novella when deciding which to spend our money on: the small size of the novella is pretty much hidden. It might have a lower price, which helps. Once we buy a novella and read it, we may feel good about how quickly we get through it, which is another encouragement to give it a good rating.
